Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on
Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.
"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here
in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be
treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to
discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or
origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an
American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance
here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an
American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have
room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we
have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American
people."
Theodore Roosevelt 1907

KEEP THIS
MOVING
The following was what I was inspired to sit down and write after reading
it.
I try to never forward an erroneous message and the message in this one is
so POWERFUL and IMPORTANT.
I went to snopes.com (a site where you can check
out lots of myths, urban legends and rumors) and I verified that not only is
this true but, there is extensive quotes from Teddy Roosevelt you might be
interested in reading.

Gee,
almost 100 years later and it seems (as illustrated with our
U.S. Constitution and
U.S. Bill of Rights) that our forefathers could see where things might
lead and go wrong. Question: Why were they, our forefathers, the politicians
of their day, so much smarter than the politicians in office today??
We are
loosing who and what we are. WE ARE Americans – a people that stand up for
what is RIGHT!
We do
not ask that people forget where they come from; just remember where there
are … in AMERICA.
We
don’t demand they forsake their religions and beliefs, just don’t try to
force us (U.S.) to change or forget ours.
We do
not ask people to forget their homeland just remember WHY they left it.
We
actually welcome different cultures and have been known to assimilate some
of those cultures into our own.
We
didn’t invent Christmas but we celebrate it!
We
didn’t invent spaghetti, tacos, egg rolls or strudel but we eat these things
and love them.
What we
DO invent we share with the world and whatever the world has to offer, if it
fits within our society, we welcome it!
We
speak one of the most illogical languages in the world – ENGLISH or should I
say – AMERICAN ENGLISH. It IS our language and has been for over 200 years.
We
celebrate OUR holidays; Memorial Day, Labor Day, Valentines Day, Christmas,
Thanksgiving, The Forth of July, Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Martin
Luther King Day, Presidents Day, etc. To some extent we celebrate
Cinco de Mayo. People of the world that choose to come here and wish to
celebrate holidays that are native to their place of origin are welcome to
do so. If we as a nation wish to integrate any of those holidays into our
national consciousness, we will through the Democratic process. We will
never force those people to NOT celebrate their holidays either privately or
publicly – unless it is offensive to our principals or morals.
IF
where they came from was all that great … why did they leave it to come
here…
… IF
their homeland was bad enough to leave, why would we want it HERE!
… IF
America is so bad that you feel a need to change it… then feel that need
back where you came from!
America
was built on Christian values and with the intent to allow people – ALL
PEOPLE that choose to live here to live free and happy and be able to
worship their beliefs without persecution. It is the strength of those
beliefs that has made this people, this county, and this place – AMERICA the
ONE place on earth most want to inhabit. Should we change what has
worked for over 200 years and most probably become what people are anxious
to flee?
When we
take the Christian values out of schools, we are taking those values out of
our national consciousness and are welcoming the end of what makes America
great.
To
those who want to remove the
Ten Commandments from our court houses… I say BUNK! All American laws
are based on the
Magna Carta. The
Magna Carta was based on the
Ten Commandments… therefore, in this context, the
Ten Commandments in our courthouses does not represent religion but in
fact represents LAW! There has been enough justice removed from our legal
system, let’s not remove LAW too.
“Give
us your poor and huddles masses” – NOT your lazy freeloaders and criminals!
The immigrants of the past, of which we are all descendents, legally came to
this country with a desire to make, build and/or earn a better life with
their hand out in friendship… not to get, steal or coerce a better life with
their hand out taking what they have not earned and complaining that it’s
not enough.
No one
promised an easy life! The only promise here in AMERICA is the freedom to
pursue a better life. A freedom to worship any religion you choose and the
freedom to the success you can earn with sweat, dedication and your brain.
No success story has ever been achieved without these things.
